Open Farm Family Fun Day at Sturts Farm

There is something special about opening up the farm and welcoming people in.

Our Open Farm Family Fun Day is about more than just an event. It is about creating a space where the community can come together, slow down, and experience the farm in a real and meaningful way. A place where children can run freely, meet the animals, and begin to understand where their food comes from, while families spend time together outdoors.

At Sturts, everything we do is rooted in connection — to the land, to food, and to people. Days like this bring that to life.

A Day on the Farm

Across the afternoon, the farm will be open for families to explore at their own pace.

There is no set route or pressure to follow a schedule. Instead, it is about wandering, discovering, and enjoying the space in a way that feels natural.

You might find yourself on a tractor ride across the fields, spending time in the farmyard with the animals, or watching children get fully absorbed in crafts and activities. Others may simply choose to take a moment, sit with a coffee, and enjoy being outdoors.

Alongside this, our Gullivers market stall will be open, offering produce grown and reared here on the farm. From fresh milk and eggs to organic meat and seasonal vegetables, it is a chance to take a piece of the farm home with you.

There will also be farm food available throughout the day, keeping things simple, honest, and rooted in what we produce.

A Working Farm Experience

This is a working farm, and that is part of what makes the day what it is.

We encourage people to come prepared, with wellies and suitable clothing, ready to embrace whatever the day brings. Whether it is mud underfoot or sunshine in the fields, it all forms part of the experience.

What We’re Fundraising For?

While the event is free to attend, there is a £2 charge per vehicle for parking, with all proceeds going towards a new milk pasteuriser.

This is a significant step forward for our dairy at Sturts.

Our small milking team works each day caring for our Shorthorn cows and producing biodynamic milk that is sold through the farm shop. The dairy is not just about producing milk — it provides meaningful, hands-on work for adults with varying support needs who are part of our social enterprise.

From caring for the animals to preparing and delivering milk, every part of the process offers real responsibility, skill development, and a sense of purpose.

Upgrading our pasteuriser will allow us to grow this work safely and sustainably. It means we can increase production, meet demand, and most importantly, create more opportunities for those involved in the day-to-day running of the dairy.

Events like this play an important role in making that possible. By simply coming along and spending time on the farm, people are directly supporting the future of this work.
