The People Behind the Progress: Meet Matthew
At Gullivers Enterprises, much of what we achieve each day is built on relationships. Relationships that create trust, provide stability, and help people develop the confidence to learn new skills and take on new challenges.
One of the people helping to make that happen is Matthew, one of our Workshop Coordinators, who leads and supports our poultry and pig teams.
For many of the people we support, structure and consistency are incredibly important. Matthew brings both in abundance. Whether he is helping companions care for livestock, teaching practical farming skills, or supporting someone through a difficult day, he provides a calm and dependable presence that people can rely on.
More Than Teaching Skills
Support work at Gullivers is about much more than supervising tasks. It is about creating opportunities for people to learn, grow, and develop greater independence.
Matthew works alongside companions every day, helping them build practical farming skills while encouraging them to take ownership of their work. Sometimes that means demonstrating a new task, sometimes it means offering reassurance, and often it means stepping back and allowing someone to discover that they are capable of more than they thought.
It is a balance of guidance, patience, and trust.
By working alongside companions rather than simply directing them, Matthew helps create an environment where people can develop confidence through real achievement.
Building Relationships That Matter
One of Matthew’s greatest strengths is the relationships he has built with the people he supports.
Strong relationships create a foundation from which learning can happen. When people feel understood, valued, and secure, they are more willing to try something new, overcome challenges, and develop skills that may once have felt out of reach.
The trust Matthew has built with companions provides that foundation. His steady approach helps create the structure and stability that many people need to thrive, while also encouraging them to become more independent in their daily work.
Life on the Poultry and Pig Teams
No two days are quite the same.
Across the poultry and pig enterprises, there are always important jobs to be done. Animal welfare remains at the centre of everything, and companions work alongside Matthew to develop the skills needed to care for livestock to a high standard.
From daily husbandry tasks and welfare checks to preparing pens, maintaining equipment, feeding routines, and monitoring animal health, each activity provides meaningful opportunities to learn practical skills while contributing to the wider success of the farm.
Every task matters, and every task helps build confidence.
Supporting the Wider Gullivers Community
Workshop Coordinators play an important role in the wider running of Gullivers Enterprises.
While the products we produce are important, the real purpose is creating meaningful opportunities for the people we support. Matthew helps turn everyday farming activities into learning experiences, ensuring that companions are not simply participating but developing skills, confidence, and a sense of achievement through their work.
The success of Gullivers depends on the people who provide this support behind the scenes, helping companions overcome challenges, recognise their strengths, and achieve goals that are meaningful to them.
A Quiet Impact
The impact of good support work is not always measured in big moments.
Often it is found in the small victories: someone trying a task independently for the first time, developing a new skill, building confidence in a team environment, or simply feeling proud of a job well done.
These moments happen every day across Gullivers, and people like Matthew help make them possible.
Through patience, consistency, and genuine care for the people he supports, Matthew plays an important role in helping companions develop the skills, confidence, and independence that allow them to flourish both within Gullivers and beyond.
