Why Christmas Starts Locally

At Gullivers, Christmas begins with people.

It begins with local makers preparing their creations for festive markets, producers carefully making the products that will fill Christmas hampers, and the people we support developing skills, sharing ideas and helping to prepare for one of the busiest and most exciting seasons of the year.

Long before Christmas Day arrives, a great deal of thought, creativity and care is already being shared across our community, bringing together people, products and experiences that make the season feel personal and meaningful.

The People Behind the Products

One of the things we love most about Christmas is that every gift, hamper and handmade product carries a story. Throughout the year, the people we support contribute across many areas of Gullivers Enterprise, from the Farm Shop and Creative Workshop to the Market Garden, Kitchen and Gullivers Botanicals range, with each area offering different ways for people to use their strengths, develop skills and take pride in meaningful work.

Christmas gives us an opportunity to celebrate those contributions and share them with the wider community. As festive products begin to appear across the Farm Shop, customers are seeing the results of months of planning, learning and creativity, with ideas explored, choices made, processes practised and confidence built through opportunities that reflect people’s individual interests and abilities.

For us, Christmas is about far more than selling products. It is about creating opportunities for people to share their talents, strengthen their skills and experience the satisfaction that comes from seeing something they have helped create being chosen, enjoyed and given to someone else.

Choosing Local Means Choosing Community

Christmas shopping is often treated as a list to complete, but every purchase is also a choice about where our support goes. When we choose local businesses, independent makers and social enterprises, more of that support remains within our communities, helping local producers continue their work, allowing small businesses to grow and enabling organisations such as Gullivers to keep creating meaningful opportunities for the people we support.

There is something especially valuable about knowing where a gift has come from and understanding the people and purpose behind it. A locally made product, a Christmas hamper filled with favourites from independent producers, or a Gullivers Botanicals gift developed alongside the people we support carries a connection that cannot be replicated by something chosen without knowing its story.

When customers choose to shop locally, they become part of those stories. Their support helps recognise the work, care and creativity behind each product while strengthening the community that has helped bring it to life.

A Different Kind of Christmas Shopping

As the festive season approaches, Gullivers will once again become a place where people can discover thoughtful gifts, seasonal food, local produce and Christmas experiences, while taking time to connect with the people and stories behind them.

Whether you are visiting to explore our Christmas hampers, order festive food, browse locally made gifts or attend one of our seasonal events, we want Christmas at Gullivers to feel warm, welcoming and personal, with space to slow down, enjoy the atmosphere and choose gifts and food with purpose.

Every purchase contributes to something meaningful, helping us support local businesses and producers while creating opportunities for the people we support to learn, participate and contribute across Gullivers Enterprise.

Christmas at Gullivers

Over the coming weeks, we will be sharing more about everything happening across Gullivers this Christmas, including Meet the Makers: A Botanical Christmas, Christmas in the Woods, festive workshops, Christmas hampers, gifts, food ordering and seasonal family experiences.

Each event, product and experience is connected by the same belief that sits at the heart of Gullivers: communities become stronger when people are given meaningful opportunities to contribute, belong and share their strengths.

We hope that Gullivers can become part of your Christmas traditions, whether that means meeting the people behind a product, choosing a local gift for someone special, ordering food for the Christmas table or simply enjoying time together in a place rooted in community.

Thoughtful Gifts, Local Food and Shared Experiences

Christmas often feels most meaningful when it is personal, whether through a thoughtful gift, a shared meal, time spent together or a familiar tradition. This festive season, Gullivers will bring together products and experiences that help connect people with the community around them, including:

  • Christmas hampers filled with products chosen from local and independent producers.

  • Festive gifts, seasonal treats and stocking fillers in the Farm Shop.

  • Gullivers Botanicals products developed alongside the people we support.

  • Christmas food ordering, including organic meat and vegetable boxes.

  • Seasonal events and creative workshops for families and the wider community.

  • Opportunities to meet local makers and discover the stories behind their work.

Supporting Something Bigger

Every Christmas purchase made at Gullivers helps support the work of Gullivers Enterprise and Sturts Community Trust, creating opportunities for people to develop skills, build confidence, make choices and contribute through purposeful activity and real work.

Choosing Gullivers also helps keep more Christmas spending within the local economy, supporting independent makers, farmers, growers and producers whose care and creativity add so much to the season.

This is why we believe Christmas starts locally: not simply because it is convenient or traditional, but because every local choice helps build a stronger, more connected community in which more people have the opportunity to take part and be valued for what they contribute.

Start Christmas LocallY

This Christmas, we invite you to slow down, shop with purpose and discover the stories behind the products, makers and people who help make Gullivers what it is.

By supporting local makers, producers, businesses and meaningful opportunities for the people we support, your Christmas shopping can help create something that reaches far beyond the gift itself.

Christmas does not really begin when the presents are wrapped or the decorations are hung. It begins when people come together, share what they can offer and choose to support the community around them.

That is why Christmas starts locally.
